Fibroids and Naturopathic Fibroid Treatment

Uterine leiomyomas, commonly called fibroids, are the most common tumors of the uterus. Fibroids are a benign muscle tumor that can cause abnormal uterine bleeding, including heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure and pain.

Uterine fibroids can be single or multiple, microscopic in size or grow to several pounds- large enough to cause bowel obstruction. So, while they are benign, they can still cause serious complications as well as threaten fertility.

Estrogen appears to play an important role in stimulating the growth of fibroids and estrogen therapy can cause them to enlarge. They do not often occur in postmenopausal women, or in women under 20 years of age. Fibroids occur in over 15% of women in their reproductive years and in over 30% of women over 30 years of age.

Prevention and Treatment:

Annual pelvic exams are important for screening women for the uterine tumors, as even large tumors can go unnoticed for years. There are natural alternatives for shrinking fibroids.
